Background
Besides the original population, Cuba – like the rest of America – is an exciting mix of European, African and Asian culture, which in various ways has left its mark on Cuba’s cultural development. With the end of colonial times, the emergence of the United Nations and the universalisation of human rights, a growing national consciousness arose in the former colonies, and with the revolution in Cuba a very special struggle began, where culture played a central role, which had great significance in many of the former colonies. But it also meant new enemies, and with the spread of the internet and social media, a new cognitive battlefield has emerged for our understanding of the world, including our understanding of the Cuban revolution.
