During the lecture, we will take the world's smallest whale, the porpoise, on a hunt in Danish waters, and with deep-sea cameras we will try to understand how the world's largest toothed whale, the sperm whale, finds food while hunting at a depth of more than 1,000 meters. You will also hear about how a bowhead whale avoids freezing to death while feeding on billions of tiny prey in Disko Bay, and how a humpback whale mother can give birth and nurse a calf without eating anything for six months.

Inauguration event for the sculpture Vingekraft, honoring women in the Danish resistance during World War II. Context: The sculpture is inspired by the resistance woman Johanne Hansen, who ran the Housekeeping School in Vollerup, and will stand as a lasting memorial to the many women who contributed to the fight for Denmark's freedom. Note: The project is realized with support from the Agency for Culture and Palaces as part of the marking of the 80th anniversary of Denmark's liberation. You can browse the artist's page linked down below, it's interesting that the art stems from the ear, and her works connects sound, light, art and music, using sound as a "chisel" to sculpt.

Some sides of the story: Religion played a major role in Queen Dorothea’s life, and it shaped not only her but also her behaviour towards the court, her family and her subjects. She was a strict and dominant mother who kept her children at home until they were grown up. When the eldest sons finally left home, they in turn began a long youth rebellion that lasted until the queen’s death. Her eldest son did not come to his mother’s deathbed, and he only married after her death, even though she had asked him to do so for years. As a widow she controlled large areas which she governed – including the region around Sønderborg. They were ruled according to the same principles as the family, with a mix of strictness and care. Get closer to Queen Dorothea on 8 October at the castle where she took her last breath.

Here, Asta was given the opportunity to hold a schoolroom session as it might have been experienced around 100 years ago. Based on items from her own childhood and school days, a whole world of old toys, games, books, school notebooks, picture books and history books has been gathered. What is there to try? In the Sysselbiks, you can among other things try writing with chalk on the blackboard, writing with pencil, pen and ink, practicing calligraphy and drawing. There will also be a story told in Sønderjysk and a song sung.
