Background
When a child is placed outside the home, parents may experience difficult emotions, thoughts and challenges. A support person helps them process the situation, understand different perspectives, and navigate meetings, letters, action plans and decisions about contact. The support person must be impartial, independent, and obtain a criminal record certificate. They have a duty of confidentiality and an enhanced duty to report. Support persons are employed on a contract basis.
